Becca Gatrell Psychotherapy
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist working with individuals and couples in St Agnes, Cornwall and online.
About me and my work
My approach is concerned with how unconscious thoughts and feelings are at odds with our conscious minds and actions. These conflicting parts of ourselves can leave us confused about what we want and troubled in our relationships and lives. In getting to know ourselves better, we can find profound relief from suffering.*
In our sessions I will support you in speaking about whatever is on your mind. This will include ‘day to day’ life, as well as memories and dreams. I create a space that encourages internal reflection alongside an exploration of the challenges and effects of society. Consideration of class, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation are all important parts of my work.
I have been working as a psychotherapist in Cornwall for the last five years and am currently finishing a postgraduate psychoanalytic training with the SSCP (Society for Social and Critical Psychoanalysis), members of the accredited psychotherapy body UKCP. I moved to Cornwall in 2016, previously living in London and working in the music and film business.
Particular theoretical interests include the treatment of physical symptoms that are undiagnosed or resistant to medical intervention, and the social scene of contemporary parenting. I recently published a paper in the European Journal of Psychotherapy and Counselling entitled “Mum’s The Word: Contemporary Mothering in a time of social, environmental and mental collapse”.
*I work with a broad range of conditions including but not limited to:
anxiety - panic attacks - depression - bereavement - addiction - eating disorders - self harm - hallucinations - suicidal thoughts - paranoia - relationship problems - body dysmorphia - ADHD - unexplained physical symptoms - complex feelings around identity, gender and sexuality
